Jos, Plateau State – On 23 October 2025, the Usuji Event Center in Jos became the epicentre of African glamour as the Miss and Mister Tourism Africa pageant was officially unveiled. The glittering ceremony, marked by vibrant dance troupes, a runway parade of contestants from more than 30 nations, and stirring cultural displays, positioned Plateau State as a pivotal hub for tourism and cultural exchange on the continent.
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, represented by the Commissioner for Tourism, Culture, and Hospitality, Hon. Cornelius Doeyok, gave the event his full endorsement, underscoring the administration’s resolve to harness culture and tourism for youth empowerment and economic growth. “We want to change the narrative and make Plateau the heartbeat of Nigeria’s tourism,” Doeyok declared, urging visitors to explore the state’s natural and cultural assets.
The unveiling attracted top entertainment figures, tourism stakeholders, and dignitaries from across Africa, turning the evening into a celebration of African unity. Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of the Plateau State Tourism Corporation, welcomed guests and lauded the choice of Jos, describing the pageant as “a symbol of unity and hospitality” and affirming Plateau’s readiness to host international visitors and investors.
Organizers praised the warmth and industrious spirit of Plateau’s people. One organizer, Sammy, recounted how local hosts built a backstage overnight and how a local designer gifted him a traditional “Godo” fabric, promising to return to the state purely for leisure. “When Plateau people set their minds to something, they deliver,” he said.
The event kicked off a week‑long programme themed “Africa Unites in Jos,” featuring runway shows, fashion displays, and cultural performances that highlighted the rich heritage of participating nations – including Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi. A street parade slated for 29 October invites residents to further celebrate Plateau’s identity as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
Plateau State’s successful hosting of the pageant signals its emergence as a leading destination for peace, hospitality, and cultural tourism in Africa, setting the stage for future collaborations and investment in the sector.
