The Plateau State chapter of the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria (AMP) has rolled out the red carpet to welcome its National President, Amb. Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson, during a special ceremony held in Jos, the Plateau State capital. The welcome event, which took place at Afik Motel, brought together movie producers, directors, actors, and key stakeholders from across Plateau State, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and reposition the state as a vibrant hub for film production.
Speaking during the visit, Amb. Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson, emphasized her commitment to engaging filmmakers directly, understanding their realities, and working with them toward rebuilding a vibrant local film industry. She noted that many of the challenges facing filmmakers across states, including Plateau, are often understated during virtual engagements, stressing that physical interaction helps uncover deeper issues and strengthens unity within the association.
Ebigieson explained that discussions with Plateau filmmakers revealed key obstacles such as limited access to distribution platforms, inadequate training opportunities, and the need for stronger institutional and government support to help local productions thrive and compete nationally. She added that the AMP leadership is actively addressing these gaps through capacity-building initiatives, partnerships with international film bodies, and upcoming trainings focused on emerging tools, including artificial intelligence, to ensure Nigerian filmmakers are not left behind.
The AMP president also emphasized collaboration as a critical strategy for growth, encouraging producers to pool resources, share risks, and jointly promote their content rather than operating in isolation. “Collaboration is the future. When producers come together, they share the risk, expand their reach, and increase their chances of success. That is how strong film industries are built globally.”
Sir Edward Fom Pam, Chairman of the Plateau State chapter, commended the state government for its strides in improving security, noting that recent interventions have made the state safer for residents and visitors alike. He highlighted the financial and policy-related challenges facing the industry, emphasizing the importance of government support, grants, and proactive engagement with tourism and cultural departments to drive growth.
The Vice Chairman of the Association, Mr. Loony John Lognan, expressed excitement over the National President’s visit, highlighting that improvements in security and peace in Plateau State have changed outside perceptions, making it safer for filmmakers to operate in Jos.
Hon. Chief Seigha Ebide, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Plateau State, commended the National President of the Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria for engaging members directly and said such gatherings provide opportunities for growth, collaboration, and talent development.
Mrs. Augusta Isaac, Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Plateau Chapter, commended the National President of AMP for her visit to Plateau State, calling for increased collaboration and support for local filmmakers.
The event was a significant step towards repositioning Plateau State as a major film hub in Nigeria, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the future of the local film industry.
