In a committed effort to achieve lasting peace and restore normalcy across Mushere Chiefdom and the entire Bokkos Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, organized a high-level mediation meeting with the Gideon & Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, Wise Youth Development Foundation, security agencies, traditional leaders, community representatives, and key stakeholders.
The meeting was held on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Council Chambers of the Bokkos Local Government Secretariat with the theme: “Dialogue, Trust-Building and Unity for a Secured Mushere and Bokkos Community.”
This strategic engagement emphasized the Chairman’s steadfast commitment to promoting dialogue, fostering collaboration, and addressing the root causes of insecurity affecting the area.
The gathering offered a valuable platform for participants to openly discuss practical steps for rebuilding trust within communities, enhancing cooperation with security agencies, and charting a united path toward long-term peace and stability.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, reaffirmed that peace is the foundation for meaningful development, economic growth, and social unity.
He emphasized that restoring peace in Mushere Chiefdom, in particular, and Bokkos LGA in general, remains a top priority for his administration. He stated that the Council will continue working closely with government agencies, security forces, traditional rulers, development partners, and community leaders to ensure all residents enjoy safety, justice, and peaceful coexistence.
Hon. O. J. Afwanks explained that the purpose of the meeting was to create a platform for dialogue aimed at building trust and confidence between communities and security forces, while also encouraging effective collaboration in tackling crime, criminality, and other security issues facing Mushere Chiefdom and Bokkos LGA. He stressed that lasting peace can only be achieved through mutual understanding, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Gideon Para-Mallam provided an overview of the current security situation, highlighting the importance of conducting baseline surveys and reviewing incident reports to better understand prevailing realities. He addressed the various underlying challenges affecting the communities and urged participants to adopt practical, inclusive, and community-driven approaches to strengthen peacebuilding efforts and promote reconciliation among all stakeholders.
The Chief of Staff, 3rd Armoured Division, Jos, reassured participants that Nigeria’s security system remains fully committed to restoring peace in Mushere Chiefdom and Bokkos LGA. He announced that improved operational strategies would be implemented to effectively address security challenges and assured residents that additional security personnel will be deployed to vulnerable communities to bolster ongoing efforts to protect lives and property throughout the area and Plateau State.
The meeting also featured valuable contributions from participants who unanimously recognized that security is a shared responsibility requiring ongoing dialogue, intelligence sharing, mutual trust, and active community involvement. Stakeholders urged residents to support security agencies with credible information, reject misinformation that could escalate tensions, and embrace peaceful mechanisms for resolving conflicts within their communities.
Attendees included the Director General of the Plateau State Peace Agency; the Secretary of Bokkos Local Government Council, Hon. (Mrs.) Gambo Mallau; the Leader of the 8th Assembly of the Bokkos Legislative Arm, Hon. Stephen Kibangs; the Commander of Sector 5, Bokkos; heads of various security formations; the Acting Chairman of the Bokkos Traditional Council and Paramount Ruler of Kulere Chiefdom, HRH Saf Lawrence Ayizat.
Other participants included district heads and traditional titleholders from Mushere Chiefdom; the Chairman of the Mushere Community Development Association; youth and women leaders; the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bokkos LGA; along with several other distinguished stakeholders committed to the peace and development of the area.
The mediation concluded with a renewed pledge from all participants to sustain constructive dialogue, strengthen collaborations among communities and security institutions, and promote reconciliation, tolerance, and unity as essential ingredients for lasting peace.
Participants expressed optimism that the resolutions reached would significantly help end the cycle of violence and build a more secure, unified, and prosperous Mushere Chiefdom and Bokkos LGA.
Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau’s administration remains dedicated to pursuing every lawful and peaceful path for conflict resolution, community development, and the protection of lives and property.
Through ongoing dialogue, inclusive governance, and strategic partnerships with relevant institutions and stakeholders, the Council is confident that Bokkos LGA will continue progressing steadily toward enduring peace, security, and sustainable development for both current and future generations.
