The Berom community in Nigeria and Diaspora has sounded the alarm over the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Fulani bandits and terrorists, calling for international intervention to stop the killings and protect the indigenous people of Plateau State and other affected areas.
In a press conference held in Jos, Plateau State, The representative of Berom Diaspora Coalition(BDC) Barry Dazhi and other Berom organizations presented a damning report on the atrocities committed by Fulani militants, including the killing of over 10,000 Berom people, displacement of thousands, and destruction of properties worth billions of naira.
The conference, addressed by prominent Berom leaders, including BECO President Gyang Dudu Dalyop and BYM President Barr. Gyang Solomon, condemned the Nigerian government’s inaction in addressing the crisis and called for the international community to take notice of the genocide.
According to Barry Dazhi the representative of Berom in Diaspora he said “The Berom in Diaspora Coalition (BDC) and other Berom organizations condemn the ongoing genocide perpetrated by Fulani bandits in Plateau State, Nigeria, and call for international intervention to stop the killings and protect the indigenous people.
The Berom people, a minority ethnic group in central Nigeria, have been subjected to brutal attacks, displacement, and economic deprivation by Fulani militants since 2001. Over 10,000 Berom people have been killed, and 151 communities have been displaced.
The attacks are part of a long-standing plan to reduce the Berom population, deny them political representation, and occupy their land. The Nigerian government has failed to provide adequate security and protection to the Berom people.
The BDC demands that the Nigerian government declare Fulani militants as terrorists and carry out military operations to flush out aggressors. They also demand the release of ₦10 billion to support displaced persons and victims’ families.
The international community, including the United Nations, African Union, and ECOWAS, is urged to take note of the crisis and support peace efforts in Plateau State.
The Berom people will continue to pursue peace through lawful and dignified means, and demand justice for the dead, displaced, and future generations.
The press conference statement highlights the complacency of Nigerian leadership in addressing the crisis, and calls on Nigerians to unite and confront the Fulani terrorists.
The statement also condemns the silence and inaction of authorities in the face of sustained violence, and demands that the Nigerian government take immediate action to protect its citizens.
The BDC calls on the media to continue to shine a light on the truth and give voice to the voiceless victims of these attacks.
The statement concludes by emphasizing that peace without justice is fragile, and demanding justice now for the dead, displaced, and future generations.
BECO President Gyang Dudu Dalyop stated, “They demonized it. They called it militia. Our people from the National Assembly from the West, from the lower platforms, went on the floor of the National Assembly to castigate and call it names. And that is the story going around with Operation Rainbow.”
Dalyop added, “We are looking for solutions and that’s the solution we have come here to voice out. If the Nigerian state will do its bidding right, I understand that we are a sovereign nation and you don’t expect me to begin to equip myself for self-defense.”
BYM President Barr. Gyang Dalyop Solomon stated, “What is happening here, and it has been rightly pointed out, is not in any way whether Legal All more than it is a head-on commerce clash. Neither is it ethnic clash. But it is a long-standing plan that we carefully implemented by full-on new militants and their other terrorist networks that infiltrated Nigeria.”
Solomon added, “The Fulani are doing is after oppressing villages and communities, They either raise their red flags claiming ownership, building mosques on foundations of churches destroyed by them. A classic example is what happened in Rangu that has been renamed as Manga after it was grabbed in 2001, where the Church of Christ Ignatius established in that place is today where the mosque was erected.”
The Berom community is calling for the Nigerian government to declare Fulani militants as terrorists, prosecute those responsible for the atrocities, and provide humanitarian assistance to displaced persons and victims’ families.
The international community, including the United Nations, African Union, and ECOWAS, has been called upon to take note of the crisis and support peace efforts in Plateau State.
The Berom community has vowed to continue pursuing peace and justice through lawful means, despite the ongoing violence and threats from Fulani bandits.
