The Plateau State Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has completed a two‑day intensive sanitation and roadside clearing operation aimed at improving safety and hygiene along key transport corridors in Jos.
Approximately 300 community volunteers, supported by PEPSA’s own sanitation staff, participated in the effort. Teams focused on major routes and surrounding neighbourhoods, including Polo to Hill Station Roundabout, Old Airport, Secretariat to Airforce Base–Yingi Road, Rayfield Resort to Gut‑Dwoi Road, Murtala Way, and Millionaires Quarters Road–Lamingo Road. Overgrown shrubs and bushes that had obstructed traffic and posed hazards to motorists and pedestrians were trimmed, blocked drainages cleared, and roadside spaces tidied.
Mrs. Naomi Longlam, Director of Waste Management at PEPSA, spoke on behalf of Director‑General Samuel Dapiya, urging residents and businesses to maintain the newly cleared areas. “We encourage everyone to trim shrubs, remove debris, and support this effort. Keeping Plateau clean is a collective responsibility that requires the participation of all,” she said.
The agency noted that such exercises help prevent bushfires, reduce breeding grounds for pests, improve road visibility, and promote a healthier environment for residents. PEPSA reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with communities across the state to sustain cleanliness and environmental safety, indicating plans to extend similar operations to other parts of Plateau State in the near future.
