The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State, in partnership with the Joint Task Force – Operation Enduring Peace, organized a “Peace Walk” on December 6 to foster unity and calm across the state during the festive season. Themed “Towards a Peaceful Yuletide,” the walk began at Old Airport Junction, proceeded through Tudun Wada and concluded at Hill Station. Participants turned out in impressive numbers, marching in a display of peace, tolerance, harmony and togetherness as Plateau prepares for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Peace Walk Highlights Unity and Health Benefits, Says NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman Polycap Auta
The Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Jos, Polycap Auta, has thanked Operation Enduring Peace, all security agencies and journalists for their contributions to a peaceful Plateau State. Speaking after the “Peace Walk” held on December 6, 2025, Auta said the march, themed “Towards a Peaceful Yuletide,” was both a symbolic gesture of unity and a health‑promoting fitness activity.
Auta expressed appreciation to the Chairperson of the NUJ Plateau State, Ayuku Pwaspo, for her support of the walk and other initiatives of the Correspondents’ Chapel. He also thanked the Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association, publishers and the entire NUJ council—including the national executive—for turning out to support the event.
In his remarks, Auta urged journalists to maintain professionalism, portraying Plateau State positively, and called for continued cooperation and teamwork among media practitioners, civil‑society groups and peace‑building organisations. He highlighted the collective effort of all participants in promoting tolerance, harmony and unity across the state during the festive season.
Secretary of the Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association, Ibrahim Kallamu, praised the organizers for their dedication to promoting unity, describing the event as a reflection of the collective resolve of residents to uphold peace. He emphasized that stability is essential for tourism and business growth and urged media practitioners to combat misinformation by publishing verified information that attracts investors and visitors. Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Polycarp Auta, said the walk builds on previous initiatives by the chapel and thanked the Joint Task Force and security agencies for their support. He encouraged citizens to live in peace, show tolerance and extend love to one another, especially during the Christmas season, and thanked participants for their commitment, praying for their safe return.
Chairperson of the NUJ, Ayuku Pwaspo, called on journalists and bloggers to remain steadfast in promoting peace through responsible reporting, stressing the importance of content that supports unity, progress and harmonious living. She expressed hope that the forthcoming Christmas celebrations would be peaceful. Representing Brigadier General G. G. Shipi, Commander of Operation Rainbow, CSP Dennis Babale commended the Correspondents’ Chapel for its initiative, describing it as vital for community wellbeing. Executive Director of the Plateau Peace Practitioners Network, Bali Nanmak, highlighted that unity must transcend politics, religion and other divides, while CSO Gad Shamaki thanked the participants—including children, youth, government officials and the public—and the journalists from Eritrea and Nigeria who covered the event.
Speaking on behalf of State Commandant Musa Ishaku of the NSCDC, ASC Nanko Rimvyok reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and maintaining peace across the state. The Peace Walk successfully showcased the collective efforts of the media, security agencies, civil society and the public in promoting tolerance, harmony and unity throughout Plateau State during the yuletide season.
