In a recent interview, Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop, President of the Berom Educational and Cultural Organisation (BECO) Worldwide, praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen. Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence. The appointment, which follows Gen. Musa’s removal as CDS earlier this year, has been received with enthusiasm in the Middle Belt, a region that celebrated his initial promotion as a symbol of representation.
“The President’s quick and decisive action shows purposeful leadership,” Da Gyang said. “General Musa has a proven track record, from his tenure as Theatre Commander to his service as CDS. He is the right man for this assignment, and his appointment is one of the best in recent political history.”
He recalled a National Assembly visitation panel to Plateau State weeks ago, during which the Berom community voiced concerns over persistent insecurity and genocide. “When Gen. Musa was removed as CDS, it did not sit well with us because of his antecedents and achievements,” Sir Gyang added. “We see his elevation to Minister of Defence as a clear signal that the government is ready to confront the security crisis head‑on.”
The BECO leader urged the new minister to act on the recommendations of the Senate Committee on National Security (North Central) and other recommendations and cries of Frontline communities, which emphasized the need for political will rather than endless reports. “The problem is not a lack of policies or intelligence; it is the will to execute,” he said. “If the will is there, the Nigerian military is well positioned to defeat non‑state actors.”
Da Gyang called for a free hand for Gen. Musa, noting that while the former CDS is now a civilian minister, his deep military experience will enable him to interrogate security briefings, defend the armed forces’ budget, and deploy resources effectively. “With a minister of his calibre, we are already halfway toward solving the insecurity problem,” he asserted.
He also warned that the Defence Minister must scrutinise the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Department of State Services, urging a “complete overhaul” if necessary to ensure accurate intelligence and accountability.
Addressing the broader ethnic communities of Plateau State—including the Mwaghavul Development Association, the Irigwe Development Association, and others—Sir Gyang stressed the importance of synergy. “Security is everybody’s business. Communities must support the Defence Minister, share alerts, and work together so that perpetrators are identified and brought to justice,” he said.
As the Christmas season approaches, Da Gyang Dudu appealed to security agencies and the public to remain vigilant, especially amid the prevalence of “knockout” devices that can be mistaken for gunfire. “Terrorists want us to live in fear; we must not give them that victory,” he warned. “Celebrate, but stay security‑conscious, report suspicious activity, and obey the law.”, Da Gyang Dudu also commend his excos and the Berom Nation both home and abroad for the commitment towards finding the lasting peace in plateau state, he also appreciate Rev Ezekiel Dachomo for his courage that led to international intervention which has put government on their toes to fight the insecurity,
