PRESS STATEMENT
RE: CLARIFICATION ON SENATOR JONAH JANG’S ABSENCE AT GOVERNOR MUTFWANG’S DAUGHTER’S WEDDING
The attention of Senator Jonah David Jang, former Governor of Plateau State, has been drawn to an online publication titled: “Could former Gov Jang’s absence at Mutfwang’s daughter’s wedding fuel speculation of rift?”
Senator Jang wishes to put the records straight and clarify that his absence from the wedding of His Excellency’s daughter , Nanbam Mutfwang, to Mr. Jeremiah Adeoye Ayodele on Saturday, was because the Senator had a prior and unavoidable commitment. The Governor of Benue State had earlier invited him to Makurdi to mark the 50th Anniversary of the creation of Benue State, a state he once served as Governor.
In honour of that invitation, Senator Jang, together with his wife, Her Excellency, Mrs. Talatu Jonah Jang, who was also the First Lady of Benue State during his tenure, had to be in Makurdi. Their presence was required for the anniversary event.
Furthermore, when His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, presented his invitation for his daughter’s wedding, Senator Jang promptly informed the Governor that he would not be available, as he had already given his word to the Governor of Benue State.
In keeping with family and political courtesy, a member of Senator Jang’s family was sent to represent the family at the wedding ceremony in Jos.
The public is therefore urged to disregard the said story .The Senator’s absence was purely a matter of prior engagement and not politics.
