The Plateau Progressive Minds for Positive Development has condemned the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, Plateau State, and defended Governor Caleb Mutfwang against false narratives.

In a statement delivered at a world press conference in Jos, the group expressed sympathy with the victims’ families and commended the Angwan Rukuba community for refusing to take the law into their own hands.

The group noted that Plateau State has been plagued by civil strife and unrest for over three decades, with thousands of lives lost and property worth billions of Naira destroyed.

The recent killings in Angwan Rukuba on Palm Sunday were condemned in the strongest terms, with the group calling for the security agencies to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.

However, the group expressed disappointment at false narratives being spread by crisis merchants, accusing Governor Mutfwang of complicity in the killings and targeting Muslims in Jos.

The group highlighted Governor Mutfwang’s efforts to foster unity, inclusivity, and interfaith harmony among Christian and Muslim communities, including rehabilitating roads in Muslim areas, renovating the Jos Central Mosque, and sponsoring Muslim pilgrims for the Hajj.

The statement urged the people of Plateau State to be united and support Governor Mutfwang’s administration, and called on youths to shun violence and immoral behavior.

The group passed a vote of confidence on Governor Mutfwang, citing his sterling performance amid security challenges.

The press conference was signed by Morgan Armstrong Pam, Coordinator, Plateau Progressive Minds for Positive Development.

The group commended President Bola Tinubu for visiting Jos to commiserate with victims of the gun attacks, hoping that the visit would provide an opportunity to understand the true security situation in Plateau State.
