Jos, Plateau State – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Jos & District Society held its annual Dinner and Award Night on Saturday at the Joshua Dariye Hall, Plateau State Polytechnic, Jos. The occasion, attended by members, their spouses and a host of distinguished guests, was a celebration of the district’s achievements and a tribute to individuals who have exemplified professional excellence and service.
In his opening remarks, the 26th Chairman of ICAN Jos & District, PAM Musa Chung, FCA, described the gathering as a moment of thanksgiving rather than a platform for lengthy speeches. He thanked God for the society’s continued faithfulness and reflected on the milestones achieved since the last dinner in 2019, including the acquisition of a district office, stronger engagement with government authorities, improved financial stability, and the successful hosting of professional and social events. He also noted the district’s growing influence at zonal and national levels, as well as the increasing participation of members in public service and political leadership.
The evening’s highlight was the recognition of Dr. Jim Pam Wayas, PhD, FCA, Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service. Dr. Wayas was honoured for his exceptional contributions to the growth and development of the Jos & District Society. A chartered accountant with over a decade of experience in both public and private sector finance, Dr. Wayas is distinguished for his expertise in financial accounting, auditing, taxation, risk‑based audits and financial reporting. He holds a PhD in Accounting from Nile University of Nigeria, is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School (USA), and is a Fellow of ICAN and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, as well as a member of ACCA (UK).
During his tenure as Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. Wayas introduced reforms that resulted in a historic 96 percent increase in internally generated revenue within two years, underscoring his commitment to innovation, transparency and sustainability. Beyond administration, he is an active academic, mentor and researcher dedicated to nurturing future professionals.
Wulashik Lucius Dafaan accepted the award on Dr. Wayas’ behalf, conveying the honoree’s apologies for his absence and expressing deep gratitude for the recognition. He reaffirmed Dr. Wayas’ steadfast commitment to ICAN and his vision for the Jos & District Society to attain its rightful prominence on the national stage.
The dinner, marked by unity and celebration, highlighted the rising relevance of the Jos & District Society within the broader professional community and set a tone of continued excellence for the years ahead.
