The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has announced adjustments to the timetable for the 2026 Local Government Elections, with the polling date remaining unchanged on September 1, 2026, the election would now hold on the 9th of September 2026 oppose to 1st September 2026, The updates were revealed at a press briefing held at the Commission’s headquarters in Jos on January 9, 2026.
According to PLASIEC Chairman, Plangji Daniel Cishak, the revisions are guided by legal, administrative, and operational considerations aimed at ensuring a credible, inclusive, and well-coordinated electoral process.
“The adjustments are strictly guided by our commitment to transparency, excellence, and stakeholder inclusiveness,” Cishak said, inviting stakeholders to review the updated schedule and work together to inform the public accurately.
The Commission had initially issued a Notice of Election in September 2025, marking the beginning of activities for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
PLASIEC emphasized that the revised timetable will ensure a smooth electoral process, but did not specify the changes made. The Commission urged stakeholders to take note of the updates and cooperate to guarantee a successful election.
The press briefing was attended by representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, security agencies, and the media.
