— REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO TRUTH, PEACE, JUSTICE, AND DEMOCRATIC VALUES.

Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel has rejected in strong terms allegations linking him to the alleged attack on the Mikang Local Government Legislative Chambers, describing the accusations as baseless, malicious and politically motivated, intended to mislead the public to score cheap political points.

Reacting to statements credited to the Leader of the Mikang Local Government Legislative Arm, Hon. Shepshal Maikalango Putdet, the Speaker expressed disappointment over what he described as an attempt to weaponize public emotions, distort facts, and tarnish his reputation through media propaganda unsupported by credible evidence.

Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel clarified that although he visited the Mikang Local Government Secretariat following the party primaries, he neither led, sponsored, encouraged, nor authorized any individual or group to attack, invade, vandalize, or destroy the Legislative Chambers or any government facility within Mikang Local Government Area.

The Speaker disclosed that his presence at the Secretariat should not be twisted into a false narrative of complicity, insisting that linking him to acts of violence simply because he visited the area amounts to dangerous political propaganda, deliberate misrepresentation, and reckless assumptions lacking factual foundation.

According to him, leadership demands responsibility, restraint, and honesty, especially during politically sensitive moments capable of inflaming tension and undermining public trust.

He further questioned the circumstances surrounding the allegations, maintaining that the speed with which the accusations were publicly circulated without substantiated evidence raises serious concerns about possible conspiracy, orchestration, and deliberate attempts to stage or exploit the incident for political advantage.

The Speaker further advised Leader of the Legislative Arm to allow the appropriate security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, to carry out a professional, impartial, and thorough investigation into the matter rather than resorting to media trials, premature conclusions, and assuming the role of investigator, prosecutor, and judge.

He maintained that determining culpability remains the constitutional responsibility of law enforcement authorities, not individuals making public accusations without the outcome of due investigative processes.

“It is deeply unfortunate that individuals occupying positions of legislative responsibility would choose the path of sensationalism and public condemnation instead of allowing truth, maturity, responsible leadership, and lawful investigation by the Nigeria Police to prevail,” he stated.

The Plateau Speaker maintained that he remains a committed democrat, a defender of constitutional governance, and a firm believer in peaceful political engagement, emphasizing that political disagreements must always be addressed through lawful, democratic, and civilized channels, not through intimidation, misinformation, or narratives capable of threatening peace and social cohesion.

While condemning violence, destruction of public property, intimidation, and attacks against citizens or public officials in all forms, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel cautioned against using unfortunate developments as instruments for political victimhood, sympathy manipulation, or image laundering.

He emphasized that truth must never be sacrificed on the altar of political desperation, personal ambition, or calculated propaganda.

The Speaker urged political actors, party faithful, stakeholders, and the people of Mikang to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding, stressing the need to protect democratic institutions, preserve unity, and prioritize the collective interest of the people above political passions.

Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to truth, peace, justice, responsible leadership, democratic values, and the continued progress and development of Mikang Local Government, Plateau State, and Nigeria at large.

He added that history will always honour leaders who build institutions, defend democratic principles, and work for peace and development, rather than those who seek to inflame public sentiment or exploit sensitive situations for personal or political gain.
