The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Gapyil Daniel, has distributed five trucks of fertilizer to farmers across Mikang Local Government Area as part of his annual agricultural support programme, reaffirming his commitment to food security and rural development.
Speaking during the flag-off exercise on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Daniel said the intervention was aimed at improving farm yields, strengthening food security, and cushioning the effects of the current economic challenges. He noted that the initiative aligns with the agricultural agenda of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Speaker explained that unlike previous years when distribution was centralized at the council headquarters, this year’s exercise was decentralized to the four political districts of Mikang to ease transportation for farmers. He personally visited Garkawa, Tunkus, Piapung and Lifidi alongside party leaders and community stakeholders to supervise the distribution.
“This is not the first time we are doing this. Every year, I consider it my responsibility to provide fertilizer for my people because farming remains the backbone of our local economy. This is my way of appreciating the confidence they have continued to repose in me,” Daniel said.
He urged beneficiaries to use the inputs strictly for farming purposes and emphasized that only genuine farmers should benefit. He also called on the people of Mikang to embrace unity irrespective of party differences, stressing that the APC primaries were over and it was time to work together for the progress of the local government.
Daniel commended Governor Mutfwang for his support to the State Assembly and for ongoing infrastructural projects in Mikang, including the ongoing road construction from Lefidi to Piapung and Baltepo, and from Lalin to Garkawa. He said the roads would boost economic activities and social interaction in the area.
He further appealed to constituents to give massive support to Governor Mutfwang and President Tinubu in 2027, expressing confidence that the governor’s performance had earned him re-election. “The governor does not have anything to campaign for again because he has done his campaign. It is left for us leaders to amplify what he is doing,” he added.
Traditional and political leaders present at the event praised the Speaker’s gesture. The Mwo-Ywom of Garkawa, HRH AIG Bashir Makama Dabup, said the community was happy to receive the Speaker and assured him of safety, noting that “contest is not war” and all members belong to the same party. Former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Moses Sule, and APC Chairman in Mikang, Peleng Caleb, also called for unity and an end to anti-party activities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development and two-term former member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Dio Lamul, has commended the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Gapyil Daniel, for distributing five trucks of fertilizer to farmers in Mikang Local Government Area.
Lamul described the Speaker’s intervention as grassroots-oriented leadership that has distinguished him through consistent investments in agriculture, education, youth empowerment, and other community development initiatives.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, he urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fertilizer to ensure a bumper harvest and improve food security in the area.
The governor’s aide also called on the people of Mikang to come out en masse in 2027 to vote for Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, expressing confidence that their continued leadership would attract more development to the local government.
He further appealed for unity among party members, noting that the APC primaries were over and should no longer be a source of division.
“What happened during the primaries is party affairs and it has come and gone. Let us learn to work together for the progress of Mikang Local Government,” he said.
Lamul attributed ongoing infrastructural projects in Mikang to the strong working relationship between the State Assembly and Governor Mutfwang’s administration, and expressed optimism that the Speaker’s performance would earn him greater public support in future elections.
Representing the Executive Chairman of Mikang LGA, Barr. Andrew Yilnan, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Hon. Dio Lamul, described the intervention as timely and grassroots-oriented. Beneficiaries including Waigoe Abraham and Koplit Peace thanked the Speaker for the support, while APC Women Leader, Irene Piental, appealed for fairness and adequate consideration for women farmers in future distributions
