The family of late Mr. Domshak Daniel Sunday has demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of his death after he allegedly died in police custody at the Eagle Eye Police Station, Abattoir, Jos plateau state. The family alleges that he died as a result of torture while in detention and say he had no known illness prior to his arrest.
According to sources, Domshak was arrested on April 29, 2026, alongside Mr. Pam Kim Raphael at Miss Ineh’s residence in Angwan Mission Centre 2, Tudun Wada. The family’s counsel, N.A. Chihirvwam Esq. of Prof. Sylvester S. Shikyil, SAN & Co., stated that police officers allegedly forced their way into the house before arresting the two men and taking them to the Eagle Eye Police Station.
In a letter dated May 7, 2026, addressed to the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, the family said neither Domshak’s family nor Raphael’s was contacted after the arrest to provide assistance. The letter stated that Domshak remained in custody until his death, which was confirmed at the Police Clinic behind the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Jos. His body was later deposited at the JUTH Mortuary, Lamingo, by the police without the presence of any relatives, while Raphael was released on bail.
The family, through their counsel, said they firmly believe Domshak was not sick before his arrest and detention, and are therefore demanding an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. “In view of the circumstances surrounding the death of late Mr. Domshak Daniel Sunday, we have the firm instruction of our client’s family to demand and we hereby DEMAND that an autopsy be conducted,” the letter read.
The counsel stressed that the family has a right to know the circumstances surrounding the death of their son. The letter urged the police command to treat the application with urgency, noting that transparency is necessary to address public concerns over the incident.
The case has sparked public reactions over alleged police brutality, with calls for accountability and an independent investigation into the circumstances leading to Domshak’s death. Many residents have expressed concern over the treatment of suspects in detention facilities across the state.
Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report. Efforts to obtain comments from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful.
