Piapung, Mikang LGA – Thousands of supporters trooped out on Thursday to give a rousing welcome to the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, as he returned to his Piapung hometown to inaugurate ward coordinators for his re-election bid.
The event, held at the Piapung Community Hall, drew party faithful, community leaders, youth groups, women organizations, and supporters from across the district. The gathering created an atmosphere of celebration and renewed commitment to grassroots mobilization ahead of the House of Assembly primaries scheduled for next Wednesday.
Addressing the coordinators, the Speaker urged them to remain focused and coordinated in their mobilization efforts. He charged them to reach every community in the area to galvanize support and ensure effective grassroots engagement before the election.
Naanlong thanked the people of Piapung for the overwhelming support and confidence reposed in him. He assured them of his continued dedication to the development and welfare of Mikang Constituency, stating that his campaign remains issue-based with the progress of the area as his top priority.
He disclosed that the screening for beneficiaries of his scholarship scheme had been concluded and that the programme would soon commence. The initiative, he said, is designed to support students across tertiary institutions and reduce the financial burden on parents in the constituency.
The Speaker also reaffirmed plans to support farmers through the distribution of fertilizer to boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security. He noted that agriculture remains central to his development agenda for Mikang.
Highlighting his record in office, Naanlong listed interventions in education, youth empowerment, agriculture, and infrastructure. He reassured residents of more projects aimed at rural transformation and improving living standards across the local government area.
The Speaker further pledged to upgrade the community hall he built in Piapung to make it more functional for residents. He said the facility would be improved to better serve the needs of the community.
Speaking on behalf of the community, John Poesmang commended the Speaker’s representation and leadership, noting that Piapung is proud of his achievements. Former Councillor of Yepwest Ward, Hon. Hangkop Yohana, who spoke for the newly inaugurated coordinators, pledged their loyalty and commitment to delivering on their mandate.
