In a major step toward achieving universal health coverage, the Plateau State Health Scheme (PLASCHEMA) unveiled a fully automated operational platform on Friday, 12 December 2025. The system, developed by Luminous Nexus Ltd., digitises enrolment, premium payment, claims processing and authorisation procedures for health facilities and health‑maintenance organisations (HMOs) across the state.
Acting Director‑General of PLASCHEMA, Dr Kwande, who supervised the rollout, said the new technology will eliminate delays that have traditionally hampered service delivery. “The automation will enable beneficiaries to pay premiums, complete enrolments and access care online, even in areas with limited network connectivity,” Dr Kwande explained. “Authorisation requests will be processed within 30 minutes to one hour, and claims will be submitted and paid within two to four weeks, dramatically reducing the time patients and providers spend on paperwork.”
The initiative aligns with the policy of Plateau State Governor, His Excellency Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who has championed the digitization of government services to improve efficiency across all sectors. Governor Mutfwang’s office expressed satisfaction with PLASCHEMA’s progress, noting that the automated system supports the state’s broader goal of extending quality health services to every resident.
Imogie Abraham, Director of HR Planning at Luminous Nexus Ltd., highlighted the collaborative nature of the project. “The platform brings together health providers, HMOs and regulators on a single digital ecosystem, allowing real‑time monitoring of services, faster claims settlement and transparent accountability,” she said.
Healthcare providers already undergoing training on the system welcomed the change. Marshuwar Paul Emmanuel, Desk Officer at Mercy‑Seat Specialist Hospital, remarked, “The automation will cut down paperwork, shorten waiting times for patients and speed up authorisation for investigations and treatments.” Similarly, Morgan Igyem Daniel, Health Insurance Desk Officer at Parkview Family Medicine Royal Hospital, noted, “We will be able to manage claims online, track approvals instantly and receive payments faster, which will greatly improve our cash flow and patient satisfaction.”
PLASCHEMA staff have completed extensive training, with additional sessions planned for HMOs and facility staff to ensure seamless adoption. The agency expects the system to be rolled out in phases, beginning with a pilot across the 17 local government areas before full statewide implementation.
The launch underscores Plateau State’s commitment to leveraging technology to meet universal health coverage targets and positions PLASCHEMA as a model for digital health innovation in Nigeria.
