Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, has congratulated Jay FM, Jos, on the occasion of its 10th anniversary, describing the milestone as a remarkable achievement and a reflection of a decade of professional broadcasting and meaningful service to the people of Plateau State and beyond.

The Speaker, in a congratulatory message to the proprietor, management and entire staff of Jay FM, appreciated the station for its consistency and professionalism, particularly its agenda setting role in and drawing attention to issues that matters to citizens that require the attention of government and other stakeholders.

Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel noted that the influence of a responsible media organisation extends beyond the dissemination of news, as the media has the capacity to shape public conversations, encourage informed opinions and bring critical issues to the front burner for public attention.

He commended Jay FM for using this influence to stimulate constructive discussions on matters affecting the State.

He particularly appreciated the station’s contribution to public enlightenment by providing platforms for citizens, government officials, professionals and other stakeholders to exchange views on governance, development, security, education, the economy and other issues of public interest, noting that such engagements strengthen citizens’ participation in governance.

The Speaker stressed that responsible journalism requires more than speed in reporting, urging media practitioners to place truthfulness, accuracy, fairness, balance, verification and professional ethics at the heart of their work.

He said this is especially important in the present information age, where misinformation and unverified reports can spread rapidly and undermine public confidence.

Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel further encouraged Jay FM to sustain its editorial independence while remaining constructive in its engagement with public institutions, noting that the media and government have different responsibilities, but share a common obligation to contribute to a peaceful, informed and progressive society.

“Jay FM has made a significant contribution to shaping public conversations in Plateau State through its agenda-setting role and commitment to responsible journalism. As you celebrate ten years, I encourage you to remain courageous, professional and committed to public interest, while continuing to use the power of broadcasting to promote accountability, understanding, peace and development,” the Speaker stated.

On behalf of the Principal Officers, Honourable Members, Management and Staff of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel felicitated with the proprietor, management and entire workforce of Jay FM on the 10th anniversary and wishes the station continued growth, innovation and professional excellence.
